Die Abwasserbeseitigung Rendsburg (ABWRD) betreibt die Kläranlage Rendsburg mit einer Ausbaugröße von 240.000 EW. Die Abwasserreinigung in größeren kommunalen Kläranlagen wie z.B. in Rendsburg (Größenklasse 5) erfolgt bisher in drei Stufen. Durch mechanische, biologische  und chemische Prozesse werden die organischen Verbindungen im Durchschnitt zu über 95 %  entfernt.  Auf der Kläranlage treten im Faulschlamm, verfahrensbedingt durch die biologische Phosphorelimination, hohe o-PO4-P Konzentrationen auf. Besonders in den auf Hochleistungszentrifugen  umgestellten Schlammentwässerungsbereich kann dies zur Ausfällung von MAP (Magnesium-Ammonium-Phosphat) führen, was wiederum Betriebsprobleme verursachen kann.  Zum Schutz der Entwässerungsanlagen wird daher eine Vakuumentgasungsanlage (VE) mit integrierter Magnesiumchlorid-Dosierung zur MAP-Fällung errichtet.  Die Vakuumentgasung wird verfahrenstechnisch hinter dem Faulbehälter und vor der Schlammentwässerung angeordnet. Zur Speicherung des entgasten Schlamms vor der Entwässerung  wird ein neuer Schlammspeicher errichtet.  Des weiteren wird im Zuge der Umbaumaßnahmen eine Fällmitteldosierung im Ablauf des Ozonreaktors errichtet.
