Bei der BGE findet die BIM-Methodik derzeit insbesondere in den Planungs- und Realisierungsphasen der Bauvorhaben Anwendung. Dort werden verschiedene common data environments (CDEs) mehrerer Hersteller genutzt, die den individuellen und „historischen“ Bedürfnissen der Endlagerprojekte entsprechen (sogenannte Projekt-CDEs; Produkte: Autodesk Construction Cloud (Autodesk), Dalux (Dalux), Eplass (Thinkproject)). Diese Projekt-CDEs sind infrastrukturell autarke Datenverwaltungseinheiten, die sich aus den Alltagserfordernissen entwickelt haben bzw. entwickeln. Auf lange Sicht ist es die Absicht, den Daten- und Funktionsumfang der Projekt-CDEs zu standardisieren, zu integrieren und alle bauwerksabhängigen BGE-Prozesse zu berücksichtigen, so dass ein durchgängiges Gesamtsystem entsteht, in dem die BIM-Modelldaten verwaltet und zugänglich gemacht werden. Dieses System soll den Namen BGE-CDE tragen und eine dauerhafte und ausbaufähige BIM-Datenplattform sein.
