Das Land Rheinland-Pfalz (RLP) verfügt über eine Vielzahl an naturschutzfachlich bedeut-samen Lebensräumen und Biotoptypen des Offenlandes. Biotoptypen der Heiden, Trockenrasen, des Grünlands sowie der Streuobstwiesen zählen zu den artenreichsten Biotoptypen in Mitteleuropa und haben daher eine große Bedeutung für den Erhalt der Biologischen Vielfalt und damit auch für das Erreichen landesweiter Ziele wie beispielsweise der Biodiversitätsstrategie Rheinland-Pfalz. Daher sind viele der Biotope nach § 30 des Bundesnaturschutzgesetzes (BNatSchG) gesetz-lich geschützt (= § 30-Biotoptypen). Bei vielen handelt es sich gleichzeitig um einen Lebens-raumtyp nach Anhang I der FFH-Richtlinie (FFH-LRT). Durch die Novellierung des Landesna-turschutzgesetzes Rheinland-Pfalz (LNatSchG RLP vom 6. Oktober 2015) wurden in RLP neben den § 30-Biotoptypen des BNatschG ebenfalls Magere Flachland-Mähwiesen, Berg-Mähwiesen und Magerweiden unter besonderen gesetzlichen Schutz gestellt (= § 15-Biotoptypen). Durch die Änderung des Bundesnaturschutzgesetztes sind die Mageren Flach-land-Mähwiesen und Berg-Mähwiesen sowie Streuobstwiesen seit dem 01.03.2022 ebenfalls durch § 30 des Bundesnaturschutzgesetzes geschützt. Die Grünlandkartierung Rheinland-Pfalz (GK RLP) ist die landesweite Erfassung der durch § 30 BNatSchG, §15 LNatSchG RLP sowie durch die FFH-Richtlinie geschützten Lebensräu-me und Biotope und ist Teil des landesweiten Biotopkatasters. Der Schwerpunkt der Kartie-rung liegt derzeit auf den Heiden, Trockenrasen, Grünland und Streuobst. Die Kartierung wird seit 2020 sukzessive in ganz Rheinland-Pfalz durchgeführt, indem pro Jahr jeweils mehrere Landkreise und kreisfreie Städte verteilt über das gesamte Bundesland bearbeitet werden.
